Use of Adobe Photoshop in Forensics

Workshop Title: Image Processing Techniques for the Forensic Practitioner (1 day)

Participants should have experience with handling digital images and a basic understanding of enhancement techniques.

This workshop will provide attendees with an understanding of the forensic requirements of digital image enhancement and an appreciation of enhancement techniques available to forensic practitioners using image processing such as Adobe Photoshop.

The workshop will provide:

  • Understanding of the importance of image resolution, image compression and file formats.
  • Knowledge of workflow, chain of custody and continuity of records.
  • Understand the use history records of enhancement.
  • Understanding Colour models, modes, management and deconvolution.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of tools & techniques to deal with problem images such as dark, out of focus, low resolution, noisy and low dynamic range.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of Enhancement techniques using layer interaction and third party tools (plugins).
