| CT assisted autopsy: How cross-sectional imaging can contribute to evaluating the cause of death |
|
(Half day session) Chris O’Donnell Post mortem CT scanning can contribute significantly to the understanding and documenting cause of death in deceased persons having an autopsy, and especially in cases where there is a family objection to autopsy. This session will outline the philosophy underlying the routine use of post mortem CT imaging, practical issues associated with such scanning, and the experience of Pathologists, Radiologists and the Coroner in dealing with the CT findings. Specific examples where CT scanning has provided practical benefit will be discussed utilising “live” interactive workstation manipulation. The value of post mortem CT scanning as a research tool will be highlighted and the future role of more advanced imaging such as MRI explored.
