The Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC) is a world-class facility capable of satisfying the requirements of national and international conventions, large scale public and trade exhibitions, corporate meetings and specialised events. Encompassing a state-of-the-art convention centre with Australia's largest exhibition space, the MECC is a multi-dimensional complex offering a range of facilities and services to meet any requirement. Since opening in May 1990, the Melbourne Convention Centre has hosted thousands of meetings and conventions, including the Rotary Conference for 23,000, the recent International Congress of Genetics - the largest scientific conference held in the world this year and the 6th World Congress of Chemical Engineering which was awarded 'Meeting of the Year - over 500 delegates', by the Meetings Industry Association of Australia. Featuring two theatres, banquet space for up to 2000 guests, exhibition area and a variety of meeting rooms, the Convention Centre provides unrivalled flexibility for conference organisers.
The Convention Centre has consistently been named 'Australia's Best
Convention Centre' by the Meetings Industry Association of Australia
and in 2000 the prestigious International Association of Convention
Centres (AIPC) named the Centre the first 'World's Best Congress
Centre'. Stretching 450 metres along the Yarra River, the Melbourne Exhibition Centre opened in February 1996 to great acclaim, winning a multitude of architectural and building awards for its unique design. Boasting 30,000m2 of uninterrupted space, the Centre has the largest single floor, pillarless exhibition area in the Southern Hemisphere and hosts the largest public and trade exhibitions in Australia including the International Motor Show, which attracts in excess of 250,000 people. Multi-dimensional in design, both venues allow organisers to also hold events that require a high level of versatility such as the award-winning Equitana Asia Pacific - an equine exhibition and theatrical event featuring over 200 horses and the Melbourne International Music and Blues Festival - a major public festival for over 15,000 which debuted in February 2003. We look forward to meeting you at this world-class facility in 2008. |
